What is it that is holding you back from living in the fullness of the life you were created for? What keeps you from stepping into all God has for you? Oh, if you could only catch a glimpse of the vision God has for your life. If you could only imagine for one moment the purposes he has your name written on.
But you’re struggling to imagine that, aren’t you? You’re lacking that vision. You’ve been questioning if there’s really more for you, or if this is all there is. Disappointment has been painful, so settling has become safe.
Today, I want to pray a bold prayer over you. This is a prayer I pray over my children every day. Now, I pray it over you my sister. Father, I ask you to set my sister free from anyone or anything holding her back in a life that is less than you created her for.
Maybe you can’t even identify what has been holding you back. But you know there’s been a struggle your whole life. Or maybe you know exactly what it is. You know it’s that habit. You know it’s that relationship. You know it’s that sin. You know it’s that issue. You know it’s that thing you’ve always done that you just keep doing. This is your Egypt.
And here’s what we know about the Egypt’s in our life … Girl, if you will cry out to God, He will set you free from that Egypt.
Egypt. It represents everything that is holding you back. It represents the thing you fear, the thing you can’t seem to control, the thing you have been enduring for so long that you now believe it can never change. This is your Egypt. And let me tell you what God does for his girls stuck in an Egypt … he does whatever it takes to set you free. He will do impossible things. He will do miraculous things. He will do crazy things. He will do secret things. He will do everything to set his girl free, when she cries out to him!
Today, we will talk about Egypt. About this place that holds us back and keeps us stuck. This place that only God can rescue you from. And that is his plan … he plans to rescue you and set you free from every single thing holding you back, so that you can begin truly living the life only God can provide.
In the Bible, we see him do it for Israel. Israel, God’s people who were slaves in Egypt. God does miraculous things to get them out of that life of bondage and on their journey to all he had promised for them. Now Egypt held on tight to their slaves. Yes, that’s what the enemy does … he holds on tight. And when the enemy holds on, God goes to any means necessary to make him let go. When Egypt held on to the Israelites, God brought plagues onto Egypt. The Israelites were there, but they were divinely protected. They were not hurt by the plagues, but Egypt was devastated. And after enough devastation, Egypt eventually lets the Israelites go and they are finally free!
You want to be free from this thing holding you back? You want to get unstuck? You want to live the life you were created for and not settle for anything less? Great! Let’s study the story in our bibles and take the steps!
Step 1: Cry out to God.
The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt for 400 years. That means slavery is all you know. Your grandma’s grandma’s grandma was a 3rd generation slave, so this limited way of living is the only story you’ve ever been told. It is your lot in life. It is what it is. But still something within your spirit is crying out for a different life. A life you don’t feel worthy of. A life you’ve never known before. Yet, you yearn for things to be different. So, you cry. But you don’t just cry, you cry out to God.
Exodus 2: 23-25, “But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God. God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act.”
Egypt was their prison. Egypt was their pain. Egypt was their problem. Egypt was their burden. And Egypt was not where God’s people belonged. But, Egypt was all they knew. And when it’s all you know, how do you ever do anything different?
Today, God’s girls are stuck in places they don’t belong. Stuck in relationships God didn’t ordain. Stuck in choices that suck our self-worth and leave us grasping for anything that makes us feel good for a moment. Stuck in habits that make us hate ourselves a little more every time we do it. Stuck in thought patterns that keep us anxious and overwhelmed without the power to ever change it. It’s our Egypt.
And if God’s girls will stop settling for this “less than” version of life we’ve been stuck in, and cry out to him, he will do exactly what he did for the Israelites in Egypt when they cried out, he will look down on his people and know it is time for him to act!
Let God know you’re ready to get out of your Egypt. You’re ready to not be stuck here anymore. You’re ready to step into the fullness of the good plans he has for your life. You’re ready for these chains to be broken. You’re ready for freedom! You’re ready for your Promised Land.
God had a promised land for the Israelites. A place where they would be free. A place where provisions would be in abundance. A place where they would be happy. A place where they would know without a doubt God had led them there. But first, God would have to get them out of Egypt.
Getting out of Egypt is no easy task. The enemy doesn’t want his prisoners set free. The enemy doesn’t want to lose his little slaves. So, it literally takes an act of God to get his people out of their Egypt. Many acts of God in fact, one after another.
Here’s the thing about our Egypt, it holds on tight. It fights to keep us stuck. It fights to hold us captive. It doesn’t just let us walk out when we complain. All your complaining is absolutely useless. Girl, stop complaining about your Egypt. Talk to God about your Egypt! Only God can save us from all the enemy is doing to hold us back.
My sister, please know God is willing to fight for you! He will willing to move Heaven and Earth just for you. Hasn’t he already proven his love for you? If you were the only person in the whole world, he would have still sent his son to die so he could save you. He will do it, and he will do it just for you. In fact, he is doing it.
Exodus 6:1, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh. When he feels the force of my strong hand, he will let the people go. In fact, he will force them to leave his land!”
This is when God brings the 10 plagues on Egypt. God causes all their water to turn to blood. He covers the land in frogs, lice, and flies. He brings hail and darkness and covers everyone in boils. All because his people had cried out to him to be set free from what had been holding them back. And all of this is God’s response. Eventually, after all the Egyptians went through, they not only let the Israelites go, they told them to leave!
This is a picture of what God will do for his girl when she cries out to be set free. These are the lengths to which God will go to rescue you from where you have been stuck when you seek him.
Won’t he do it? YES HE WILL.
So the Israelites walk out of Egypt. Free. Unstuck. Rescued. Saved. And supernaturally guided. No, the journey wasn’t over, but God was with them.
Wherever you’ve been stuck and whatever has been holding you back, just know God will stop at absolutely nothing to rescue you if you will cry out to him. He will change hearts. He will break chains. He will move mountains. He will part seas. He will bring darkness all around you while giving you light to see the next step.
Today, may you know with every ounce of your being that you are his beloved girl. Oh, how he loves you. And how he has good plans for your life. May you find the courage and strength to cry out to him. And as you do, know that he is being moved into action. He is working on your behalf. He is moving things and changing things and doing impossible things to bring you out of your Egypt. To set you free. To guide your every step to bring you to the fullness of his promises over your life.
The path is being cleared and the way is being made for you. You are being set free from every Egypt in your life. Every thing that has been holding you back. Every thing that has tripped you up. Every thing that has caused you to settle for less. God is changing it all so you can walk out of that now.
And honey, when you walk out, you walk with confidence. You don’t have to go back to those bad habits again. You owe absolutely NOTHING to that addiction that tried to chain you. You don’t have to keep paying for your wrong choices and mistakes. The debt has been paid in full. You are free to walk on out and live up to the potential God has placed in you.
Can’t you see how he has been working? It’s time.
