942 When You Don't Understand

What if you’re really not supposed to understand all of this? What if the feelings you feel are completely normal, however they were never meant to be your guide? We spend so much time and energy on trying to make sense of things that simply don’t make sense, then we argue about who we think got it right. We’re all probably wrong as we act completely ridiculous. Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Yip, the bible is being serious when it tells you not to depend on your ability to understand everything. Your quest to make sense of it, feel okay about it, and somehow have the slightest bit of control over it, will no doubt take you off course. Trust isn’t required if you already understand it. I have to trust the lights will turn on when I flip that switch because honestly I have no clue how electricity really works. If I understood it all, I wouldn’t flip the switch in faith, I would flip it in knowledge. God calls us to TRUST HIM, not understand him. He calls us to follow him in the way we should go, not lead him in the way we think it should go. Maybe you’re smack dab in the middle of things that don’t make sense right now. Things you think God should have changed by now. Things you can’t understand or see God’s hand in. Things you specifically prayed wouldn’t happen, but they are. Times like this cause us to question. It’s natural. We can’t understand the mysteries of God, and we’re not supposed to … that’s why they’re called mysteries. But you know what ruins a good mystery movie? Trying to figure it all out in advance. That’s what ruins the whole story. You try to see where it’s all going and plot it out in your head, while missing the unfolding of the story. Yes, unfolding … there’s that word God keeps giving us! Maybe you’re ruining the good story God is writing here because you’re trying to see where it’s going instead of just trusting the unfolding as it happens. But again, scripture says TRUST the Lord and stop depending on your own understanding. You’re NOT going to figure this out here. You think you know the plot, but girl there’s a plot twist you won’t see coming. It’s the twist where God takes all the enemy meant for evil and he turns it for good. Your heart is deceitful. You know why? Because your heart is real close to your stomach, and just like your stomach can get tricked into choosing what you want NOW over what you want MOST. You can fall for the counterfeit, fast and easy offerings of the enemy over the genuine, slow roasted offerings of God. Hey, good things take some time and we have to be willing to wait for them. This requires trust. Trust while we don’t see it, we know it’s coming. Trust while it hurts like heck right now, God is gong to redeem that hurt. Trust while it burns, these ashes will be traded for beauty. Your emotions fluctuate. One minute you’ll feel confident and the next you’ll feel defeated. If you are lead by your emotions, you will be running circles never getting anywhere. You know what ruins a good healthy lifestyle faster than anything? Asking how you FEEL about following through with it today. You know what ruins a good budget? Asking how you feel about not buying what you want right now. You know what ruins a good routine? Asking what you feel like doing right now. Your feelings will get you in trouble girl! Your feelings are fickle and flip on a dime. You’re in, then you’re out. You’re on, then you’re off. You’re certain, then you’re cautious. And really what it makes you is crazy. Don’t be lead by your emotions, they are not a trustworthy guide.
